Pretty soon, I will have been writing this blog for six years, so I thought it was high time that I wrote a bit of a biography page. Why not?
So, my name is Seren. It's not really but it's the name I blog under. I was born in Essex, but my family moved up to North Yorkshire when I was 19 and I never quite got round to going back. I now live in Leeds with my husband, D, and an adorable but capricious cat called Minx (that is her real name. She has formally waived her right to anonymity).
I have been dieting for about as long as I can remember, as is the way for many of us girls. I have spent some of my life being very slim, some of it completely normal sized, and some of it rather fat. I am OK with that latter category. Being fat does not mean that I am a bad person, or lacking in any particular way. However, I am now in my mid thirties and I would like to dodge the attendant health issues, such as type 2 diabetes, that are the reality if you carry too much weight.
A lot of my weight gain, especially in more recent times, I put down to having struggled with mental health issues and being on medication for depression and anxiety. Like many other people in a similar position, I have been guilty of self medicating with food and drink in low periods. As I write, I am in a very happy place and not taking any anti depressants but I don't kid myself that there won't ever be any more bad patches so I try to stay vigilant. If the blog goes a bit quiet for a while then I am probably off hiding in bed waiting for the fog to pass. Touch lots and lots of wood that won't happen any time soon.
I started writing my blog, the W(eight) W(atching) Foodie, because I was sick and tired of reading about celebrities who maintained their figures by living on chicken and steamed veg. I believed in 2010, and I believe now, that this is not the case. Food is a pleasure and I want to lose weight while still eating a delicious and varied diet. Chicken and veg have their place but it is alongside loads of other wonderful things. Oh, and I am not affiliated with Weight Watchers, but it is the diet plan that I have used the most frequently and the most successfully. Their philosophy, that everything in moderation is OK, chimes the closest with my own.
I also write this blog as a record of my foodie adventures. D and I love to eat out and we love to talk about the places that we have visited and the things we ate there. I also love my adopted county and am always excited to bang the drum for local producers and local venues.
I am grateful to every single person who comes and spends some time on this blog. I love to write it but I would be kidding myself if I said that I don't care if no one reads it. Thank you, dear readers, and thank you, little blog for being my own shiny corner of t'Internet.
